Quantitative experiment is an important part of middle school chemistry experiment, and it has prominent significance in cultivating the scientific literacy of middle school students, especially in promoting the quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of middle school students. However, at present, quantitative experiment has not been widely carried out in middle school chemistry teaching activities, quantitative experiment study of middle school chemistry is beneficial for promoting middle school chemistry experiment reform, improving middle school chemistry teachers’ emphasis on quantitative experiments, developing the quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of middle school students.In this paper, the author summarizes the connotation of the quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of middle school students based on bibliographic research. The members of chemistry community in middle school were selected as research object in practice research. Questionnaire survey was conducted to detect the level of the quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of middle school students, and then two quantitative experiments were carried out in community activities. The quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of students in the experimental process were shown in this paper through the observation. Meanwhile, the change of the quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of middle school students were detected by written interview and individual interview after the two experiments.Through the research, the quantitative consciousness includes learning chemistry from the quantitative perspective, learning chemical physical quantities, and recognizing the value of quantify in chemical experiments. At the same time, quantitative capability includes quantitative experiment capability and the capability for using mathematics as a solution to problem of quantity about material properties and its variation law. Conducting quantitative experiments in middle school chemical extracurricular activities, as a supplement of the lack of quantitative experiment in teaching activities, not only stimulates students’ interest in scientific inquiry and students’ manipulative ability, but also develops the quantitative consciousness and the quantitative capability of middle school students.
