The long-term middle school educational practice shows us that environment has an effect on high school students undoubtedly. Since the 21st century, part of primary and middle schools of China have realized that education is not a lonely fight and the mutual interaction with communities is so important and effective that they are beginning to try cooperating with communities. However, owing to the specific Chinese conditions as well as the short time and low levels of the mutual interaction, a number of practical problems need to be solved. For example, school educational standards exist in the long term. Schools are developed by themselves. Communities are uninterested in supporting school work and joining in the issues of schools. There is no official standard to ensure the cooperation of schools and communities and no regulation to manage and promote it. So it is of special importance to carry out the research on the community environment affecting the development of high schools loyally and pertinently.Y High School is located in H Community which is developed economically, culturally and educationally. The community environment not only differs from the rural community environment which is poor in economy, culture and transportation, but also from the urban community environment where industry is advanced, commerce is prosperous, population is large, communication is unblocked, people is well educated.How are high school students affected in such a particular environment positively or negatively? What should high schools do with it? The purpose of the research is to make sense that environment has both positive and negative effects on education, uniting schools and communities as a whole in a mutual and cooperative win-win way so as to set an example to schools and communities in the mutual interaction practically and find a breakthrough with school education permeating every part of society. In this way, high schools will be developed in an all-round way.The thesis is a case study on the community environment of Y High School, dealing with the causes, content, aims, methods and innovation of the study. The thesis consists of four parts. The first part combs the domestic and foreign achievements and present situation of the study according to the documents and analyses the relevant elements of the environment in community construction and development in order to deepen the theoretical exploration of the mutual interaction. In the second part, a case study on Y High School and H Community is carried out to learn about the school’s history and present and the community’s natural and social environment. The third part is based on the case study. It analyses the reasons why high schools are firmly connected with community environment and shows how community environment affects high schools in terms of scientific outlook on development. The fourth part analyses the negative effects community environment has on high schools, develop the theories of life-long education and harmonious society construction, put forward the ideas of constructing community environment to boost the development of high schools and realize the joint progress of high schools and communities.
