The Special Subject of Chinese for Jiangsu Junior High School Students is a new, comprehensive and research-oriented component of the textbook. It is favoured by many Chinese teachers at the very appearance, for it is characterized by concentration, extension, exploration and integration. However, with its further application into many schools, it has many problems due to various factors. This study thus aims to explicate the significance of The Special Subject and to make an effective scheme to use it properly from the viewpoints of its design features as well as its teaching strategies. A detailed consideration is also given to The Special Subject from the writers’ stance as a teacher of Chinese in the teaching field. It is believed that such an approach can shed some light on how to optimize the first rank schooling resources in this regard.First, the study on the design features of The Special Subject is conducted with reference to the idea of Hong Zongli who compiled Chinese for Jiangsu Junior High School Students and that of textbook compilation, as well as to the characteristics of The Special Subject itself. Secondly, the research on the teaching strategies is done on the basis of teaching expereinces and the teaching plan that is designed on some questionares. Then the aspect of students’emotive and value development concerning The Special Subject is discussed and it is concluded that the students’formation of universal value need to be improved. Last but not least, the research methods adopted in the present study comprises a literature review, quentionares and interviews.
