Alignment can be defined as the degree of agreement between a state’s content standards for a specific subject area and the assessments used to measure student achievement of these standards. The outline of basic education curriculum reform point out that state’s content standards is the basis of textbook compilation, teaching, evaluation and test making, and the foundation of curriculum management and evaluation. As a result, the geography achievement qualifying examination in Jiangsu should have significant alignment with the state’s content standards. This study calculates the alignment index of the geography achievement qualifying examination of senior high school from 2007 to 2012 and the state’s geography content standards. Then the study analyzes the result from the following aspects:alignment index’s inter-annual variation, the contents’distribution in different cognitive levels and the content maps. The result shows that there’s a fine alignment between the compulsory course test and the content standards, but the alignment index continues to decline in recent years. There is no significant alignment between the elective test and the content standards, and the alignment index fluctuates every year.
