Since the Reform and Opening―up in the past 30 years,the major proposition of education in China is to improving the quality of the rural education and narrowing the gap between the urban education and the rural. In minorities rural area,the rural education not only play a role in the overall process of building a socialist harmonious society,but also take up the tradition and carry forward the traditional culture of ethnic task.In front of challenges and tasks,an urgent need to educate the rural―oriented concept of sustainable development,change people’s thinking,behavior,insist on a sustainable manner,improve the quality of education in rural areas to promote national culture and prosperity,train a new generation of farmers and laborers in the new period of development,ultimately promote the formation of human understanding of sustainable development,ability to obtain sustainable development,eventually form to a harmonious and sustainable society.This research chooses Linxiang district of Lincang in Yunnan as the subject. Based on the theory of sustainable development education, the author gets fist-hand recourses by literature review, field survey, and structure and semi-structure interview, and does action research, participatory observation and narrative research based on above-mentioned theory. It provides good research samples for its national characteristics and superior geographical environment, pertinently displaying the local characteristics and values and providing appropriate, abundant and reliable authentic materials. It lays a solid empirical basis for this study and at the same time it obtains realistic enlightenment of the sustainable development of ethnic school education in rural areas. Besides, it supplies theoretical and practical support for the sustainable development of ethnic school education in the similar areas.This thesis paper consists of the following four chapters.Chapter 1 is a general introduction to the study. It introduces the research background and significance against which the study was carried out. And it definessome related concepts and designs the research layout based on the research needs.Chapter 2 provides the preliminary study on the theory of the sustainable development of school education in minority rural areas. By review of the literature on the concept of sustainable development and combining with the current situation of minority rural areas, it obtains the definitions of the sustainable development of school education in minority rural areas, its characteristics and its components.Chapter 3 is the practice of the sustainable development of school education in Linxiang district and introduces the special teachers’ studio set up in this district, the reading activities carried out, “four modernizations” and the inheritance activities of ethnic culture. It analyzes and sums up the effects and traits of these practice activities.Chapter 4 puts forward some solutions and thoughts to these problems by concluding and thinking the existing problems in the process of practice of the sustainable development of school education in Linxiang district.
