The essence of science has important implications for the current curriculum reform.The reform of the compulsory education chemistry curriculum emphasizes the improvement of students’ scientific literacy and the process of student learning, and helps students to understand the nature of science. The essence of science education is to enable students to understand the nature of science through the teacher’s teaching behavior.This study based on the literature review, from scientific knowledge,scientific inquiry, science defines the three dimensions of the nature of Science in science education in school view, A list of thirteen two grade indexes, and thirteen indicators to determine the nature of science questionnaire and chemical knowledge test. This research takes the students of junior middle school as the research object,By "scientific inquiry" as the main line, the main line is the use of two ways: "Tells the story of a scientist" 、 "The students experience the process of scientific inquiry",combined with the Shanghai Education version of junior high school chemistry teaching materials selected seven teaching topics for teaching practice. After the teaching experiment, through the statistical analysis of the questionnaire, the teaching activity design based on the concept of scientific essence makes the students understand the scientific knowledge,scientific inquiry and scientific career. Through the analysis of the students’ chemistry scores before and after the teaching experiment, it shows that the teaching experiment has a promoting effect on the students’ chemistry. Therefore,the nature of science teaching activities based on design is effective, can enhance students’ understanding of the nature of science.
