With the development of the times and economy, the demand for education increases obviously and the competition of national strength begins to reflect on education level.At present, China and America are actively promoting the new curriculum reform.Textbook as a carrier of educational content, has a pivotal role in the new curriculum reform. The biological experiment is an important content of biology as well as the basic of biological theory and is also the method of verifying biological deduction. This thesis compared the biology textbooks used in Shanghai and California high school, expecting to provide some beneficial references and recommendations for the reform of biology textbooks.In this study,document analysis,comparative study and illustrate method are used to research textbook macroscopic and microcosmic structure.Textbook macroscopic structure includes the content system, the time-space span and the safety education; Textbook microcosmic structure includes the scientific inquiry and STS education.We get the conclusion that the experimental teaching in California pays more attention to safety education and the contact with life, and emphasis on students ability of thinking and creating in the experimental process. At the end of this article, concerning with Shanghai’s actual conditions and conclusions in the research, we give the advice to increase the experimental types and improve the science process skills.At the same time,we should strengthen the safety education and broaden the time-space span.
