The research of educational fiction opens up the new field in the study of historiography of education, which not only adapts to the new trend of shifting down of research view of current historiography of education, but also contains rich content of education. This form that satirizes education status quo and depicts educational ideal has profound educational significance and reference value. "Fortress Besieged" is a Chinese modern educational fiction with worldwide reputation and influence which takes war as the background and undergraduate students as protagonist. The rich content of education in this novel deserve the attention by researcher of historiography of education. But throughout the current research works, most of them talk about literary appreciation and historical study and few of them discuss the education value. The papers that discuss on the education world of "Fortress Besieged" are even rarer.Based on the above understanding, this paper starts with interpreting "Fortress Besieged". It analyzes the real educational world of “Fortress Besieged "through understanding the relationship between personal education experience of Qian Zhongshu and his creation of "Fortress Besieged”, researches the virtual educational world through the understanding of education situation reflected by the novel at that time, and concludes the ideal education world of “Fortress Besieged" through criticizing virtual education world. Based on the analytical method, this paper constructs "three level analysis modes" which adapts to all educational fiction, giving enlightenment of methodology for people. Specifically, this paper is divided into four parts, namely:The first part is mainly states the real educational world of "Fortress Besieged",that is the unique educational experience of Qian Zhongshu. The free, liberated Mongolian school experience lays the foundation for "Fortress Besieged". The educational experiences from China to Western, the educational practice from returning back to China and teaching books make Qian Zhongshu clearly outline the ideal blueprint for the world of education and presented through "Fortress Besieged".The second part mainly explains the virtual educational world of "Fortress Besieged", that is “Seeing reality through virtuality” not “Taking virtuality as reality”andseeing the real university in wartime from "Fortress Besieged". Based on the conclusion of education problem of "Fortress Besieged" and combing with the realexperiences in Southwest Associated University and Lantian Normal College, the author of this paper analyzes the three problems of faculty life, university teaching and university administration. However, the virtual education world in this book is only Qian Zhongshu’s personal ideal and understanding for university in wartime and this fiction belongs to the kind of “education problem fiction”. This nature reflects its education problems, but the university in wartime is still a remarkable, and only firstly explicit on this point can objectively interpret the virtual education world of "Fortress Besieged".The third part summarizes the ideal educational world of "Fortress Besieged" based on the analysis of virtual educational world that is education value of Qian Zhongshu. However, Qian Zhongshu is not an educator and we cannot require him with rigorous academic standards. Thus, the ideal education world in "Fortress Besieged" has individual effects and the real education world in the fiction is too idealistic and it may not be fully realized in the real world. So only have objective interpretation can it will not unfair.The fourth part makes the conclusion. This paper provides an overview for research highlights and proposes the overall judgment to "Fortress Besieged" in the global comparison vision. It is not only the excellent modern Chinese satiric novel but also the educational fiction with worldwide reputation and influence. Moreover, the author of this paper tries to establish the “three level analysis mode”(real educational world, virtual educational world and ideal educational world) for educational fiction,giving the new perspective and methodology for the analysis mode of educational fiction.
