With the development of science, technology and society, national intense summon to the scientific literacy, science education curriculum and the development trend of China’s basic education course reform, STSE education arises at the historic moment. STSE is the abbreviation of the four English words: Science, Technology,Society and Environment. It emphasizes the interaction of the four aspects, pays attention to train students’ ability of analysing and solving real social problems and decision making. Ordinary high school biology curriculum standard(experiment)"with particular emphasis on "pay attention to make students learn biology in the background of real life, advocating students in solving practical problems in the process of deep understanding of the core concepts of biology, and be able to use the principles and methods of biology to participate in the discussion of public affairs, or to make the relevant personal decisions." Therefore, in the high school biology teaching implementation of STSE education is indispensable.In this paper, by using the method of literature analysis, we analysed STSE research progress at home and abroad, clarified the STSE meaning, target and principles of education. Meanwhile,we reviewed and compared the STSE education philosophy at home and abroad, summed up the shortcomings of domestic education.Through the method which combined interview and questionnaire survey, we investigated some first line biology teachers and students of ten high schools in Shanghai and in Shannxi Province. Then we examined the problems during implementing STSE education in high school biology teaching in eastern and western areas of China, and we have given some suggestions. Starting from the problems found during the investigating, we compared and analysed the ways of penetrating STSE concepts in biological textbooks for high schools and life science textbooks for high schools. We emphatically analyzed the contents which penetrate STSE concepts in biological teaching materials of Shanghai version. This paper mainly discussed the four methods of implementing STSE education: situational teaching method,experiment exploring method, role playing method and extracurricular activities method. Finally, we given the teaching cases designed by using STSE teaching concepts, hopefully they are useful for biological education workers.
