| As information technology,which mainly includes computer technology and multimedia technology, is widely used in the field of education, PPT (PowerPoint) is becoming one of a useful tools to assist in teaching among teachers. Biology is a science studying the rules of life activity and its relationship with environment at macro and micro levels. Compared with other subjects, biology teaching in high school is relatively abstract and hard to comprehend. Therefore, by applying PPT, teachers can better explain knowledge visually, concretely and objectively, and then the biological rules in the micro world could be displayed by vivid images or videos, hence students will understand and master the knowledge much more easily.The orientation stage is the key period for a teacher’s career. A new teacher in high school biology may meet many problems when he uses PPT to teach in the class due to the short teaching time and the shortage of teaching experience. Thus, this will decrease the teaching quality of PowerPoint, hinder deep combination between information technologies with biology curriculum and finally decrease the quality of classroom teaching. Therefore, it is very important to help new teachers in high school to use and grasp PPT fast, scientifically, efficiently and reasonably.The main purpose of this study is to find out the major problems when new biology teachers in high school use PowerPoint in teaching, and present reasonable optimization strategy to solve these problems. The final aim is to help these teachers adapt to the use of PPT and master the "PPT teaching" technology as soon as possible, then improve the quality of PPT teaching and make full use of PPT teaching advantages in biology.Four new biology teachers in high school as objects of investigation in Jiangsu Province were chosen to consult their basic information, visit their class and interview with them after class by the method of literature reading, observation and case study. By analysis of personality and common in their PPT application, major problems were found out as follows:Lack of PPT pre-service training; Too much reliance on PPT; Lack of standardization of PPT design and report; Copy other’s PPT or read PPT directly out of students and textbooks, so that students are tired of the PPT; Have too much slides and slide show is so fast that students can’t keep up with teacher; lack of communication between teacher with the students; The equipment such as computer and project or break down, the PPT is not used normally.To solve the above problems, the corresponding optimizing measures should be taken from teachers themselves and school, respectively. As for new teachers:Promote themselves theoretical attainment of using PPT; Standard PPT design and manufacture; Combine PPT with traditional teaching methods; Switch PPT slides properly; Use PowerPoint reasonably; Make a lot of commutation with students. As for the school:Detect and maintain corresponding equipment; Train new teachers PPT technology regularly; Provide specialized and technical support; Organize more public classes activities to improve the new teachers’level of teaching. |
