Peer Interaction, an important aspect of Area Teaching(one of the teaching methods in kindergarten and creates a learning environment for the children’s independent exploration) has a profound impact on children’s social development. Therefore, this paper aims to present the real situation of peer interaction in area teaching(PIAT), hoping to deepen people’s understanding of PIAT and awaken educators’ awareness of PIAT. By doing this, this paper further interprets the behaviors of children and provides a reference to teachers when area teaching is introduced. This paper begins with the theoretical review of PIAT advocated by Chinese and foreign educational scholars, selects X Kindergarten in Kunming(Yunnan, China) as the research object, and integrates such methods as literature review, observation method, case analysis and grounded theory, Then from the perspectives of friendly and unfriendly behaviors, this paper targets on the Kindergarten’s three activity areas which featured on more diversified methods and longer time for interaction used in wider zones: role zone, construction zone and large equipment zone. Further, it explores the situation of PIAT and extracts useful information for research. Indeed, this paper is divided into four parts. The Introduction part comes first, which briefly states the reason of the selected topic, literature review, definitions and the constitutions of this paper. The second part will presents the paper’s research results and analysis of PIAT. Four kinds of interaction in the three areas(role zone, construction zone and large equipment zone) will be presented respectively: the overall interaction of PIAT; the interaction of friendly and unfriendly behaviors; the interaction of language, action, and that integrates language and action; the interaction of boys, girls and that between boys and girls; the interaction of acceptance, rejection, ignorance and teachers’ intervention. Then the third part will discuss the characteristics and influence factors of PIAT. Five aspects of interaction will be explored to explain the characteristics of four-orfive-year-old children’s PIAT separately: areas, behaviors, methods, types and results. Also, this part will conduct research on the influence factors of these children’s PIAT from children themselves, teachers, families and social and cultural aspects. Finally, based on the theoretical review and practical observation of children’s PIAT, the fourth part proposes several related suggestions for the better use of PIAT in children’s education, echoes with the selected topic of this paper and reflects on the real situation of PIAT.
