A Comparative Study On The Operation Modes Of Amateur Table Tennis Clubs Between Kunming And Zhengzhou In The Background Of National Fitness Strategy

Table tennis, as "Pauper Sport" and "Cheap Sport", is very popular among the pubic and suitable for public consumption, and also has a good exercise effect. These advantages come in line with the demands of the development of the national fitness. The table tennis club as a carrier of the table tennis promotion carries out a very important research value in the nationwide fitness among people.This thesis used the method of field survey, interview, questionnaire investigation, contrastive analysis and statistic analysis to compare the operating modes of table tennis clubs in Kunming and Zhengzhou, attempting to sum up the similarities and differences of the organization structures, management systems and operation mechanisms of the table tennis clubs of the two cities. This thesis also tries to explore the relationship between the operation modes of clubs and the nationwide fitness by analyzing the basic situation of consumers of the two cities based on the Report of the Investigation about the Situation of Nationwide Fitness in 2014 to see if the ability of consumption and the characteristics of consumption reflect the characteristics of entire population to participate in the activity. The results of the comparison among the clubs of Kunming and Zhengzhou show that:(1) Compared to the clubs in Zhengzhou, most of the Kunming amateur table tennis clubs are of medium size, each of which has about 50 members; while the clubs in Zhengzhou are mostly large sized with about 100 members. The clubs of both cities are distributed in the old city commercial circle and around the stadium. Table tennis club, mainly divided into: personal investment business club, official or community public welfare comprehensive sport club, and feeder club;(2) The welfare clubs of both cities are of similar organization. The commercial clubs in Zhengzhou have independent institutions for matches, media organizations and development agencies, and these clubs are more motivated. But the clubs in Kunming are poorly equipped. Besides these the organization structures of these clubs are incomplete, and the marketing systems are poor.(3) In Kunming, the management of the clubs basically relies on the experiences of the investors themselves, and cronyism is a widespread phenomenon. On the other hand, the clubs in Zhengzhou are mostly managed by professionals, making their management systems more professional, standard and complete, which is more helpful for the long-term development and stability of these clubs.(4) The clubs in Zhengzhou provide more services based on the needs of the public, which are able to satisfy the basic needs of the nationwide fitness. The clubs in Kunming, however, provide only simple services with less content, which focus on training and lack the items welcomed by the public.(5) The main source of funds of amateur table tennis clubs in both cities includes training fees and membership fees. But the clubs in Zhengzhou receive more profit, which have more coaches, especially high level coaches who play an important role in the clubs. Besides, the training market demands in these clubs are exuberant, and they have distinguished brands. However, clubs in Kunming have fewer coaches, who are mostly of lower level and don’t seem to help motive the training subjects that are mainly are youngsters. Besides, these clubs lack a complete system for training.(6)The clubs in Zhengzhou have institutions for professional matches which hold more matches and matches of higher level than Kunming. They also do a work in organizing and publicizing matches. However, the matches held by Kunming clubs are basically tournaments among their members which are not so influential among the public.(7) As for the characteristics of the consumers, the consumers in Kunming clubs are mainly the elderly and retiree, and there are less teenagers, teachers and students. These clubs hold activities once or twice a week, which doesn’t seem to help promoting nationwide fitness. On the other hand, the clubs in Zhengzhou manifest the characteristics of the consumption of the entire civilization which can be observed from the number of consumers, the duration of each activity, and the number the activities held weekly;This thesis compares the operation modes of clubs in the two cities and suggests solving the possible difficulties and problems they may face in the operation through the “government- club” cooperation model or the “strategic alliances of clubs” model, attempting to help promoting the operation and development of the clubs of the two cities and bring whole population participation and the national wide fitness into play.
