Starting from contemporary pedagogy and educational psychology, this essay systematically the theoretical basis of heuristic teaching method: what heuristic is, the significance of it, as well as strategies of putting it into practice. It is thought by contemporary constructionists that study is the process that students organize and reorganize the structure of knowledge. Teaching should lay emphasis on student's organizing structure of knowledge and it is also a process that students automatically optimize their structure of knowledge. Heuristic teaching must be based on students' self-centered structure. That students are guided by teachers' elicitation is the extension of finding teaching method. As for the topic on how to put heuristic method into practice, it proceeds from systematical theory and points out new views on elicitation. An optimized system is certain to be an exhausted system. The exhausted system enlarges interior room for students and also creates a proper internal environment in order to raise students' interest, exploit their intelligence and cultivate their abilities. Based on the exhausted system, heuristic teaching particularly emphasizes on building open teaching environment and breaking through the set structure of knowledge; it also attach importance on turning the disorderly into the orderly, optimizing students' structure of knowledge; it also emphasizes on optimizing students' structure of intelligence and cultivating students" creativity and originality. At the end, it tells a Little about the design of heuristic teaching from a angle of teaching mathematics.
