Personalized learning is a kind of humanism educational theory, which stresses the individual learning difference at social experience, intelligence, attitude, emotion and physiology. Its mission is to coordinate the individual traits of learners with learning environment and aims at perfecting the personality of learners.The web provides the alternative learning environment for personalized learning. How to design a perfect web-based learning environment that can take full advantage of the web to support online personalized learning, which becomes a hot area in education. Although some relative studies have been done, most existed researches just approve the impact of personality factors on learning performance, such as "The Five Factors that Affect the Learning Outcome In Distance Education"(Wang Lu, etc). Few documents answer the following questions: what is the web-based personalized learning? How to implement and evaluate the web-based personalized learning? Moreover, the existed web-based learning supported systems still can't meet the need of online personalized learning in most level and need improving.The thesis focuses on how to create a real web-based personalized learning supported system (WBPLS) from both theory and technology views. First, the thesis tracks back the evolution of the personalized learning, describes its internal essence, external representation and instructional strategies. Second, the thesis analyzes the defects and its cause existed in the present web-based learning supported system. Third, the thesis puts forward the improving measures, which include constructing the comprehensive learner personality model, using a flexible personalized course produced technique, enriching cognitive tools, perfecting evaluating system and stimulated methods. Based these researches, the thesis suggests the function modules and system framework of the WBPLS and describes in detail the design method of each functional parts and overall developing technology program. In the end, the thesis validates these measures with the course "English Grammar".
