The thesis explains the signification of research on effective mathematic reading in junior high school, while it gives the definitions of mathematic reading and mathematic reading ability on the basis of the correlative education psychology theories. We analyzed the major factors effecting the mathematic reading ability of junior high school students are reading motivation and metacognitive. On the basis of the researches on the correlative theories, the author drew a conclusion that is the effective mathematic readers are much better than ineffective mathematic readers in three aspects which are the mathematic reading motivation, the level of their reading self-monitoring and their reading strategies. Therefore, the thesis selected mathematic reading motivation, the level of reading self-monitoring and the reading strategies as the three major factors effecting the mathematic reading ability of junior high school students to develop the experimental research. At the beginning of June in 2002, the researcher carried on the experiment in the grade8 of Tianjin Xinghua Junior High School, which included 105 students. Through the analysis and comparison of data, we got conclusions as following:1. Mathematic reading ability is distinctly positive correlative with mathematic score, the level of mathematic reading motivation, the reading strategies and the level of reading self-monitoring. The effective mathematic readers have higher level of reading motivation and more reading strategies, as the same time having higher level of self-monitoring.2. Distinctly improving of reading self-monitoring depends on the long-time training. Making the outside training transfer a kind of inside self-awareness need a very long procedure. Compared to reading self-monitoring, it is easier to master the reading strategies for junior high school students. Because reading strategies are more concrete and more handling than reading self-monitoring.The survey shows that there are lots of students with reading difficulties and ineffective reading, especially in mathematics. Although many reasons can cause this situation, it's necessary to develop the correlative and effective training for these kinds of students. Thought training, we can arouse students' mathematic reading motivations ,making students know the elemental knowledge on mathematic reading, master the strategies and methods of mathematic reading and have good habits of mathematic reading, improve their levels of reading self-monitoring while we can help students read effectively. That isn't only an improvement of mathematic reading comprehension ability, but an improvement of self-learning ability for students.Thought 7 months research, the researcher began from analyzing the major factors effecting the mathematic reading ability of students in junior high school on the basis of education psychology theories and practiced some corresponding teaching steps, gaining some valuable results.
