The national curriculum has designed definitely the ultimate objective of high school mathematics teaching and learning, which offers a clear criteria of learners' faculty accumulation in the subject; which also encourages teachers of mathematics in high schools to update their conception in teaching and keep up with the modern times by monitoring, adjusting and reflecting their work themselves, so as to make their teaching job more efficient in bringing up better learners. Therefore, a reasonable, comprehensive and as well fair-planned evaluation is of great importance.The essay dissertates with six chapters "the research on theory and practice in evaluating high school mathematics teaching". As an important aspect of school education assessment, evaluation in mathematics teaching has its own feature and attribute. Making careful studies in mathematics teaching evaluation is a must in the everlasting development of teachers of the subject.With "quality education" as the general purpose, the essay provides an overview of evaluation in mathematics teaching, following principia of development, actuation, and multi-dimensions, pointing out the spirit of the teacher's job lies not only in "teaching students to know to learn" but in "teaching students to know how to learn". The teacher's responsibility is tomotivate learners' autonomy in getting and transacting information rather than present as much human civilization as possible for them to keep in memory. So it is the teacher's primary duty to help learners gain abilities in reasoning and solving problems, which in turn brings about chances for learners to gain creativity through practicing.
