Nowadays the importance of communication is becoming more evident. The concept of well expressing and showing one's idea is well accepted. CommunicationStudies is highlighted in the first language teaching by most of the countries all over the world.Due to the special target of training, the purpose of Professional and TechnicalEducation in China focuses on practical competence and employability. Because ofthe wide application of communication in real life, the Communication Studies issubstantially beneficial to the students' employability in the future, especially to thestudents who study arts in the Professional and Technical Education. Under suchcircumstance, Communication Studies is given more emphasis and widely used in thediscipline of Chinese linguistics and literature. Moreover, many Professional andTechnical Education schools provide Communication Studies to the student of arts ontop of the current curriculum.However, the quality of teaching Communication Studies is not satisfying at the current stage. To some extent, the limited research on communication studies restrains the development of this discipline in our country. How to figure out a good method in order to efficiently and effectively organize the studies is becoming a critical topic in the discipline of Chinese linguistics and literature.This thesis consists of 6 parts. In the first part, the difference between oral ability and communication competence is analyzed based on the theory of Communication Competence provided by Dell Hymes. And then, the character and task of Communication Studies is articulated accordingly.In the second part, the behavior of communication is explained based on the Language Application Studies, and the function of each component in the behavior of communication is also illustrated.In the third part, the communication process and the components of communication competence are analyzed from the perspective of the Cognition Psychology, and its implication to the education practice is also discussed.In the fourth part, it introduces the current situation of communication studiescarried out in Chinese secondary schools, and puts emphasis on the investigation of two sets of teaching materials for communication studies.In the fifth part, it introduces the development of communication studies carried out by other schools abroad, and analyzes the character of their activities that help bring the new insights to our communication studies.The last part of this thesis is to structure the curricula of Communication Studies. To do so, the fundamentals of Communication Studies is defined first, then the structure of the curricula is proposed which includes the teaching process, training modules, and a sample of case studies. Finally, the methods to assist the communication studies is discussed and narrated.
