Currently, many web-based courses are still following the way the traditional education does, which makes the learner bored with studying. Neglecting the cognitive features of the receivers, there will be cognitive overload and low-efficiency. Analyzing the status of visual-design in the web-based courses and according to the theory of visual communication, the thesis brings up visual theory in the web-based courses: visualizing the information, learning the learner and aesthetic demand. Since that, it puts forward the principles of screen design: succinct, humanistic, shared-experience, and the feature of media. Author expounds how to simplify the visual representation by the metaphor of visual symbol; how to serve well; how to establish the shared-experience between the sender and the receiver; and?how to form visual expression in a web-based course. The thesis applies?the visual perceptual theory to the visual design of web-based courses so as to correct the bias.?The thesis tries to??provide the learner a full-scale and integrity theoretical frame for the visual design in the web-based courses. The topic makes a theoretical treatise and practical probing in visual study in order to richen the design theory and be benefit to the designer.
