Australia has been attaching great importance to the development of overseaseducation market. Education export is the eighth largest export and the third largestservice trade in Australia. Nowadays, the number of the overseas students studying inAustralia ranks three in the world. Education brings in more than fifty billionAustralian dollars every year. All this shall owe to the education strategies AustralianGovernment has been frequently promoting. Since 2001, the Immigration Departmenthas been adjusting the visa policy and made it more and more applicable for thevarious Australian universities and colleges enroll the overseas students who havegood English background and payment capacity. Australian Government increasededucation investment to promote development of the international education,emphasized the construction of high education, made and revised Education Servicesfor Overseas Students Act to ensure the quality of education export, establishedvarious scholarships for top students, set up partnerships and joint projects withoverseas education institutions offering academic qualifications or none-academicqualification, developed the distance and internet education to participate the overseaseducation market without institution. The Education Department promoted Australianeducation by officials'visiting, organizing the education institutions to participate ininternational education exhibition, building the official overseas study website,publishing Australian Education Newsletter, and organizing the AustralianSchoolmate Association. For its largest market, China, the Education Department ofAustralian Embassy held the seminars on development of Chinese education andSino-Australian education cooperation, staged the education exhibitions in themetropolitan cities, held the visa seminars and forums for Chinese agencies, took partin the on-line talk programs in Chinese website to promote the Sino-Australianeducation exchange and cooperation.Since China has joined the WTO, In accordance with provisions of GATS, Chineseeducation market should open to the members of the WTO, which is to say, all themembers of the WTO have the rights to take part in the competition of the educationservice in China.
