Influence Of Overseas Returnees On China's Export Sophistication

With the development of international trade practice and its theory,more and more scholars attach great importance to the upgrading of the technical content of a country's export products,so the concept of the Export Sophistication arises at the historic moment.At the same time,the return of overseas students of China is increasing,and the return of overseas talents is important channels of international technology spillovers.So,the purpose of this study is to explore whether the overseas returnees have an impact on the China's export sophistication.This is also the innovation of this article.This article first summarizes the domestic and foreign scholars' literature on the export sophistication,including its connotation,measurement method and evolution mechanism of the export sophistication.Then,introduces the analysis framework of heterogeneous enterprises and the binary marginal of trade,combines the Melitz model of heterogeneous enterprise with the LP model of international technology spillover,and constructs the theoretical basis for the theoretical analysis of the overseas returnees influence the export sophistication.Next,this paper carries out empirical analysis at the national level and the provincial level.The application of Ridge Regression to data at the national level from 1992 to 2016 proves that the return of overseas talents has a significant positive impact on the export sophistication of China's;the 2002-2016 provincial panel data are used to analyze the impact of overseas returnees on different regions.As a result,it was found that the return of overseas talents in the eastern part of China significantly increased the export sophistication,but it was not significant in the central region and not significant in the western region;therefore,use panel threshold models to analyze the return of overseas talents on export sophistication.The result indicates that there is a threshold value of 7751.When the number of returned overseas talents in a province exceeds this value,the export sophistication can be significantly increased.Finally,summing up this paper,and proposed that the central and regional governments need to increase scientific research investment,improve the soft and hard environment of domestic scientific research and other policy recommendations,in order to attract more overseas talents.
