Equality of Men and Women, a theory in girl's education , was put forward by the New Culturists' during the May 4th Movement of 1919,with its basis on the practice of girls' school establishing promoted by Hundred Days' Reformers and other revolutionaries. It was also a result of the New Culturists' debate over the issue of women on the spur of the untimely current of "back to the ancients", as well as of some western theories, including the theory of natural rights, Evolutionism and Feminism and etc. The forerunners formulated the goal of girl's education as Supra-good Wife and Loving Mother, allowing the girls to study the same educational content with boys in the same school, as the educational form required, but taught with western methods for girl's education. Generally speaking, the new theory deepened the May 4th Movement and expedited the development of girl's education and liberation. Due to their lack of good understanding in traditional girl's education, however, the imitating of western education under the banner of equality eventually gave birth to the repetitive non-equality of men and women; the object of education, finally lost itself in the educational pursuit of human being's development. Furthermore, the current coeducational system in China can be traced back to the theory, in which the limitations impeded the development of modern education. A research into the theory will give a boost to the progress of modern education, especially to the all-round development of women.
