Wushu is a peculiarly national and traditional sport activity of our homeland, which has a long history and is well established. More than 2,000 years ago, with the Wushu cultural communication of Chinese and foreign countries, which was at its staye . embrynic spread abroad. After so long a spreading history, Wushu, which has already spread to all over the world, has become a worldly sport activity. In history, Wushu played a positive role in the production and development of other national sports of the surrounding countries of China. Nowadays, The international communication of contemporary Wushu not only enriches in world sports culture, but also promotes the cultural communication between Chinese and Western sports culture. It is inevitable Wushu tends to be internationalized which has gotten irresistibly historical tide. The 2008 Olympic Games, which will be held in Beijing, offers a new opportunity to Wushu's spreading world wide. If Wushu can take part in the Olympic Games, it will be another milestone of Wushu in its the history of internatihonal communication. Though Chinese Wushu had a long spreading history in the world and has gained remarkable achievements, the theoretical research into this field has just begun. In order to meet the needs of the international development of the contemporary Wushu, it is meaningful and important to review and study the history of spreading ofWushu. It is hoped that this paper can promote the historical research of the Chinese Wushu.The author reviewes the history of Chinese Wushu spreading in the world. Taking dialectical and historical materialism as the guiding theories, the historical incidents that Wushu spreads in the world as the clue. The thesis attempt to make a tentative analysis of Chinese Wushu in the world. Through such methods as historical method, dissemination method based on documents and materials, the author thinks that Chinese Wushu spreading has gone through three main periods, namely the naturally spreading period, the transition period, and the overall fast developing period. The conclusions are as follows:Firstly, the archaic Chinese Wushu diffused to the surroundingcountries in the course of the communication of china with the other countries, which shows the characteristic of the naturally spreading. There are neither people who internationally spread Wushu, nor concrete goals of spreading. The spreading promoted the emergence of national sports activity of surrounding countries. The main way for spreading is population migration.Secondly, the spread of Chinese Wushu in the world began to make the transition in modern times, which was marked by the appearance of the consciousness of the subjects appeared not only special setup of Wushu spreading in the world, but also two main ways ~ visiting performance and setting up overseas branch were founded to spread Wushu.Thirdly, the spreading of Wushu in the world which is affected by various kinds of adverse factors, was at its detained stage from new China to end of the Culture Revolution. Having gained very remarkable achievements, Modern Wushu spreading enters overall, fast developing period since reform and open policy. Moreover, the way that Chinese Wushu spreads becomes diversified, the content becomes enriched, the speed enhanced. It is characterized as the modernization of spreading media.
