The fundamental conception of chemistry is the significant substance of high school chemistry education. Research in the domain of the fundamental conception of chemistry in high school is of great importance to the implementation of chemistry curriculum criterion , to the reformation of chemistry teaching in class education, to the promotion of students' development, and to the improvement of the effect of class.Our research focuses on four aspects theoretically, which are meanings of the fundamental conception of chemistry, distinguishing features, formation process and substance constitutes.In our opinion, the fundamental conception of chemistry in high school refers to students' correct and comprehensive cognition of the essence of chemistry which is formed on the base of knowledge and experience gained in their high school chemistry study. It's the cognition to the chemistry branch itself as well as chemistry knowledge. It has not only ordinary features such as generality, stability and arrangement;but also unique distinguishing features such as fundmentality, development, multilist collecting quality and so on. The fundmental knowledge of chemistry is the base of the fundamental conception of chemistry, while the latter is the generation and sublimation of the former. The fundamental conception of chemistry and practiced laboratory operative skill both constitute the scientific literacy of chemistry.The formation of fundamental conception of chemistry is a complex process which can be divided into three phases: firstly, information material structuring together with structuring information formation;secondly, coming into being of fundamental problem together with problem determination;thirdly, the sublimation of basic cognition (core conception) and formation of fundamental conception. These three phases develop in proper order and interact with one another. The formation process of one kind of conception will influence those of other conceptions actively.The fundamental conception of chemistry in high school is a system, which consists of three sections as chemistry information conception ,chemistry method conception and chemistry affection conception. The chemistry information conception consists of the chemistry substance and composition (element ,corpuscle, action, configuration), alternation and change (substance and energy), and substance nature. The chemistry affection conception consists of chemistry values and chemistry feelings. These conceptions separate from one another, butinteract with one another, and act together as a whole. The fundamental conception of chemistry in high school has significant scientific study value. In summary, the meritorous value lies in the following eight functions: effect, selection , explanation construction, move, formation, drive, and intention.Based on the above-mentioned theory, we have done relevant study and research. We have dissected the curriculum criterion, studied the use and development of teaching material and education design. We have discovered that the current curriculum reform is giving the fundamental conception of chemistry in high school with the extremely great concern. However, we think that the high school chemistry curriculum criterion has not been established completely on the base of the formation of the fundamental conception.Of course, our research is limited to the study and analysis of the theory. It needs to be applied and examined in the furthur practice of high school chemistry education, which is exactly our next orientation to work hard for.
