Being the basis of creativity, question awareness plays an important role in students' development. Therefore, protecting and promoting their question awareness is a major way to realize quality education. However, there are still various disadvantages in China's educational system of primary and middle school after a series of reform. In order to make a further study of the students' question awareness, we devised a questionnaire on the question awareness of middle school biology. The universal coefficient of reliability of the questionnaire is 0.883, the rest factors' coefficient higher than 0.6, the lowest acceptable number, therefore it also has a good structural validity.In order to develop students' question awareness, this thesis established the "lead in— discussion" teaching pattern which aims at improving students' question awareness. In this pattern, we put students in a specified situation and encourage them to give their own questions on the basis of group discussion, and then give a deep thought on these questions. After a period of teaching by this pattern, the average score of the question awareness of the experimental class is 92.57 while that of the common class is 87.64, so it has the statistical meaning. Moreover, this teaching pattern can substantially improve female students' question awareness, and this shows the interaction between the teaching pattern and gender.According to the statistics of the students' total score of biology, the difference between the experimental class and the common class at the 0.05 level has the statistical meaning, and the total score of the former is higher than that of the later. And there is no statistical difference between the two on memorizing and understanding ability, but on analyzing and commenting, there is statistical difference between the two, that is, the biology score of the experimental class is higher than the common class. So we can safely say that the "lead-in—discussion" teaching pattern can improve students' biology achievements at a higher standard.
