The new Chemistry Curriculum Criterion issued by the Ministry of Education clearly indicates that makes student learn basic methods of scientific inquiry ability, self-learning ability and better problem consciousness. It is important for changing learning model to actively develop scientific inquiry activities. Curriculum reform requires student to change learning model, which urges teacher to update teaching consciousness, to indult student's self-learning, inquiry learning and cooperate learning, to form student's life learning consciousness and ability. Changing teaching model and updating teaching consciousness would greatly transform teacher's role.Problem-Based Learning (for short PBL) concerns new curriculum reform very nearly. It is an experiment to put PBL into use of middle school chemistry teaching. By references summary, questionnaire investigation and experimental study, this paper primarily studies teaching model and teacher's role in PBL.At first this paper introduces the background and significance of the thesis. PBL is in accord with new curriculum reform, and makes good for updating teacher role. The first part is theory summary. It introduces information process theory, constructivism theory, main body theory and teacher role. The second part introduces foreign PBL and its possibility of practice in our nation. By student and teacher questionnaire investigation, this part analyses actual teaching model and teacher role. In the third part. there are some teaching cases, which are conducted through the teaching experiments in Beijing BaYi Middle School, with the cooperation of chemistry teachers, then discuss these cases.Chemistry teacher in middle school guarantees the successful implementation of the curriculum reform. The teacher role in PBL provides a successful example. It is feasible to implement PBL by facts, whereas there are some deficiencies, which are discussed in paper.
