Teaching materials is the heart of the curriculum and the evaluation of the teaching materials is attached more and more attention by supervisors of curriculum and educational experts. As a result, strengthening the study of teaching materials' evaluation both in theory and practice is a important aspect of curriculum reform.The paper is divided into five parts: the first part introduces the junior chemical textbook of the standard Lu educational press for compulsory education and its historical background, evolution and characters; the second part states the theoretical foundation of the textbook, including learning theory, systematic theory and modern curriculum theory; the third part illustrates the feature of the textbook that is close to actual life, embodying the idea of STS, intensifying the inquiry aspect of experiments, strengthen the integration of the scientific spirit and humanist spirit, etc.; the forth part analyzes the choice of content, teaching goal, the system of exercise, the system of experiments and suggests some constructive advise; in the final part points, the limitation of the textbook and some modified suggestions are given.
