Abstract/Summary:
The new curriculum reform requires teachers to establish the new concepts of curriculum, teaching and materials, and it also advocates teachers to use these materials creatively. This is not only the requirement of new curriculum concept and materials policy, but also the need of solving the contradictions between the actual teaching situation and materials and teachers' professional development. However, teachers have lots of questions about how to make use of materials creatively in their teaching practice. So it is of necessity and importance to study the redevelopment of materials in this context.Materials redevelopment refers to teachers' and students' processing and handling the teaching materials goal, teaching material contents and teaching methods again. It is based on the analysis of related factors, such as curriculum standards, textbooks, teachers, students and teaching environment and carried out by using curriculum and teaching theory and learning theory and using increase, omission, adjustment and integration methods. Its purpose is to make the teaching materials adapt to specific situations and eventually service teaching and learning. After researching and analyzing the history and present situation of the materials redevelopment, the paper proposes some theoretical bases related to it, including "curriculum teaching" concept, the mutual adjustment orientation and creative orientation of the curriculum implementation, cognitive study theory, humanistic learning theory and constructivism learning theory.By questioning some teachers and students about the using of new English textbooks in several senior high schools of Henan, the research analyses the basic situations of the teachers and students, their evaluations of the textbooks and the problems existing in the materials redevelopment. The results show that New Senior English for China and Senior High English are basically accepted by teachers. However, there are some similar shortcomings in the two sets of textbooks. Firstly, it is hard to stimulate students' interest in materials. Secondly, the difficult degree of materials does not conform to the students. Finally, the teaching equipment wanted by materials does not match the actual situation of school. We have found teachers and students have some trouble in redeveloping materials by gathering and analyzing the questionnaires. Many teachers are not familiar with the curriculum standard and heavily affected by examination-oriented education. They pay less attention to the students ' main body status and have lower level of material redevelopment. As for students, their methods of study are relatively backward. In addition to these problems, the effective use of materials is lack of the support of related conditions. In order to solve these problems, this article suggests that teachers should change the concept, strengthen teaching consciousness, change materials idea and develop more curriculum resources. They should also change their concepts about students and try their best to awaken the students ' main status consciousness. The educational department should strengthen the related training in order to improve teachers'level of the material redevelopment. Besides, education investment and teaching conditions improvement are necessary.Finally, on the basis of analyzing and summarizing the questionnaires, this paper puts forward six aspects of the strategies about material redevelopment, which are: establishing the principles of the material redevelopment, grasping the methods of the material redevelopment, analyzing of relevant factors, setting the teaching goal, determining the dimensions of the material redevelopment, evaluating and reflecting the material redevelopment. These several strategies can make the material redevelopment a complete dynamic system.The purpose of analyzing and discussing the materials redevelopment in theory and practice is to help the teachers and students to redevelop materials effectively, and finally promote their comprehensive and rapid development.
