Taijiquan, which has abundant Chinese traditional cultural contents, is thought by many people to be the half of Chinese wushu. It embodies a Chinese special mode of thinking, behavior norm, esthetic sense, worth mindset, philosophy of life and cosmos view etc. At the same time, it clearly implies the consciousness of Chinese culture and is a typical representative of Chinese traditional culture.With the change of ages, Taijiquan, this opening system, has appeared to be of the different forms under the influence of the internal and external factors. The modern Taijiquan gets a full development while the traditional Taijiquan has to face the death and pressure. By analyzing the phenomena of its own system, we can not clearly expound "tradition and modern" and other problems if we still follow to use "Taijiquan" to explain its whole condition, for a word reflects certain concept, and the concept then reflects the category of certain things and phenomena, and it also reflects thinking form of its essence or characteristic.The globalization of economy and science and technology in the world has brought the globalization of cultural dissemination and the strength of the globalization has been assimilating local cultures of the whole world. It is an urgent task to protect and rescue the traditional cultures of various forms, which is the root of the traditional cultures and the premise to extend them. At the same time it provides abundant resources for the future. So it is very important and urgent for us to make the research on how to protect the traditional Taijiquan and it is also the primary problem for us to solve if we have to modernize our Taijiquan.The writer takes several methods—document data method, expert interview method, on-the-spot investigation method, logic analysis method—to discuss the traditional and modern Taijiquan; and carry on the scientific analysis to the concept of the traditional Taijiquan. He has dug out the existent problems of the traditional Taijiquan and at the same time put forward strategies to protect the traditional Taijiquan from the culture, economy and law.
