Nowadays, young children's English teaching is becoming more and morepopular in China. For the lack of efficient instruction, many teachers feel veryconfused about how to teach English, someone just do the teaching randomly. For theyoung learners, the main way of English learning is following teacher's direction. Soif teachers know how to make a good lesson design(plan) and teach English well,children would learn well. However, the studies of young children's Englishinstructional design remain superficial. This study attempts to create a model ofEnglish lesson design for young children.English teaching design is the application of Instructional Design Theory inEnglish subject. There are three theoretical foundations in young learner's Englishlesson design. They are Theory of Systematic Designing Instruction, Theory ofS.Krashen's Second Language Acquisition and Theory of Children Psychology. Basedon these theories and plentiful teaching experiences, we make a model of classroomEnglish instruction design for young children. It include the basic designing principlesand the demands of operational procedures.There are five basic principles of young learner's classroom English instructionaldesign. They are principle of balance of aim and diversity, language acquisitionprinciple, visual principle, multi-sensorium principle and pleasure principle. They aredifferent from the demand of higher grades and adult English teaching. Furthermore,in order to complete a systematic lesson plan, you should make the instructionalobjectives clear, you should also write down the teaching procedures and evaluationactivities.In the end, we make an example to show the combination of theory withpractice. You will see how the systematic design and arrangement be applied in theclassroom teaching. We also find that this model of classroom instructional design isuseful.
