The Instructional Design is the bridge to convert learning theory into actual teaching behavior. The development of online teaching makes it hard for traditional Instructional Design to meet the needs of Network Instructional Design, which puts forward expectations and requirements for the Automated Instructional Design. And the application of information technology in the field of teaching makes it possible for the emergence and development of the Automated Instructional Design. Automated Instructional Design can be divided into three levels:digitalization, formalization and intellectualization. From the perspective of linear Instructional Design and Nonlinear Instructional Design, this paper,, focus on the formalization of them on the basis of IMS LD Specification by using the tools of Unit of Learning Design.This research is instructed by the IMS LD Specification. The paper summarizes the concept model, information model and the main development tool of IMS LD Specification. Besides, it chooses Reload LD editor as the tool for the research through testing and introduces the general steps of using Reload LD editor to formalize Instructional Design. As for linear Instructional Design, this paper puts forward a typical branch in Instructional Design——Network classroom teaching, on the basis of summarizing the development history, influences and representative model of Linear Instructional Design. In addition, it discusses the relationship between Network classroom teaching design and linear Instructional Design and designs the process model of Network classroom teaching, which is in correspondent with the design elements of IMS LD Specification. It elaborates specifically the implementation process of the formalization of learning unit by using Reload LD editor with the example of teaching topic"the definition of educational technology". The practice proves that Reload LD editor tool can be used to realize the formalization of linear instructional design. In the Instructional Design of nnonlinear thinking, this paper first introduces the main theoretical root of nonlinear Instructional Design, the inspiration and influences brought by nnonlinear thinking to traditional Instructional Design, and the specific application of nonlinear thinking in Instructional Design. Secondly, by choosing the typical branch of Instructional Design based on the typical nonlinear thinking-web-based collaborative design of independent learning, this paper describes the development of collaborative independent learning based on network, and proposes web-based collaborative self-learning design of process model, which is in correspondent with the IMS LD Specification. And this paper also discusses the detailed implementation process of the formalization of web-based collaborative design of independent learning unit, with the example of the learning of "the definition of instructional technology". The study and practice show that the Reload LD editor tool can be used to realize the formalization of nonlinear Instructional Design.The successful study of formalizing different Instructional Design ideas on the basis of IMS LD Specification in this paper provides a good reference to readers, and it can be used as theoretical guidance and operational manual for educators who prefer online teaching through the use of formalized Instructional design.
