Since the autumn of 2006, a new Chinese Textbook is put into use gradually in many vocational schools in Shandong Province, which is compiled by Shandong Vocational Education Group and published by the People's Education Press in June, 2006. Compared with the former textbooks, the new edition has a great change in both the forms of the arrangement and also the content with a more reasonable selection of the poem texts. The poem texts that are selected have two features in general: firstly, it is easily read with a good rhythm; secondly, it is easily echoed with rich emotion. With the guide of the New Curriculum Reform Theory, it is practically significant to study the characteristics of the poem texts in the new textbook so as to improve the poem teaching.Therefore, the study of object should be played in the first place in Chinese teaching. And, in contrast to the students in high school, we can find that students in vocational school are not good at learning and have a lower interest in it. Most of them aim at learning some kind of technique in vocational school, and take it for granted that Chinese is not important. In addition, the spread of internet, television, scientific fiction, Kungfu novel and love story and so forth keeps students far away from the poems.The poem texts which have great vitality have the characteristics of full of real sentiment, great interests and true meaning. The main aim of teaching poems in the vocational class is to guide the students appreciate the magical function of Chinese words carefully, leading on the heart of students arouses the sentences of poem, leading on the sentences of poem arouses the heart of students, rich the students language knowledge, improve their ability of philosophy thought, open the heart space, and makes their spirit world vividly and livelily. However, poem still plays an important role in vocational school Chinese teaching with many positive roles as the following goes: it helps a lot to the grow-up of students'spirit and takes a great part in improving the humane attainment of the students; It also does good to the development the students'intelligence as well as the improvement of aesthetic attainment; it passes on our traditional culture and gives a hand to establish students'cultural beliefs in such an environment that traditional culture has gradually been ignored; it then plays an important role in transmitting the marrow of Chinese civilization.Consequently, it is a clear fact that poem teaching should be emphasized in Chinese teaching. During the teaching, reading is the basic task and the content of the text should be firstly understood and then stimulate students to explain the text by their own means, which will arouse their imagination and have a good influence on their soul. Thus, the effect of poems will be produced through the Chinese teaching.
