Based on analysis of various learning styles and mechanisms of the cognitive process of information technology, a teaching model is designed and built-up in our teaching practice for information technology. The teaching model is focused on developing and improving students' metacognitive ability for learning information technology. The major components of metacognitive strategy, including planning, monitoring, evaluation and modifying the cognitive process, are built into in the teaching model. A scale of metacognitive ability is put forward by dint of standpoint of the metacognitive structure that Dongqi & Liudianzhi. The scale contains 3 major sections of metacognitive strategy: awareness, comprehension and monitoring/controlling of cognition of the information technology study. The scale can be used to monitor the 5 facets of metacognition: knowledge, attention, monitoring, adaptation and evaluation. After the teaching experiment, the result is analyzed, and conclusion has been made that the students learning information technology with the help of the model demonstrated improved metacognitive ability.
