Intercultural communication, which was born in the middle of 20th century, is a marginal discipline which is related to anthropology, psychology, sociology and linguistics, etc. The multidisciplinary nature of intercultural communication entails multidisciplinary approaches to intercultural communication studies. In the study of intercultural communication, it is inevitable to compare the differences between cultures, which will benefit our command of other cultures quickly. The traditional methods of intercultural communication studies, mainly influenced by essentialist view of culture, will lead to otherization which causes the failure of intercultural communication.Culture is dynamic, open, complex, and not an unchanged entity from the non-essentialist view of culture which is of great importance to the study of intercultural communication. This thesis points out that the dialectical method in the study of intercultural communication is a more overall, more scientific, more practical method in the study of intercultural communication because it studies intercultural communication in a dynamic and open way. |
