From Relativism To The Core Values

This paper mainly discusses two representative moral values education modes in the western multicultural context: Relativistic values education and core values education.Firstly, this paper points out that western values deeply experienced change from one plural to multivariate because of multicultural springing up. The direct result of values change is to cause moral perplexity and moral conflict. Western society rises values clarification in their coping with the moral plights caused by value-pluralism and puts forward to relativism moral values education.Relativism values education of philosophy foundation is liberalism which is base of values clarification. Values clarification insists relativism, thinking that people should keep value neutrality between different values outlook. Moral education is not to teach some right values , but help to choose values which guide action .But the fulfillment proves that value education without common values instruction not only didn't solve a teenager worth moral conflict, but even play the teenager's morals confusion. Hence , the western education circles begin to introspect and adopt another education mode namely: The core values education. Philosophy foundation of the core values education is an agencies doctrine. Character education is to teach educational mode of the core value education. Character education insists morals consensus with the social community widespread and commonly shared , insists teaching behavior widespread and commonly shared and important core values . But the character education also faces so or so of query.The latest our country also faces a multicultural challenge . How to treat the culture of foreign country dissident in this kind of multicultural context? Western education mode of the moral values view in 60's of 20 centuries can provide beneficial apocalypse for our country the current school moral value view education . First ,the moral value view's education takes morals consensus as bottom line; Second, We should strengthen education of core value and virtue education ; Finally , we should adopt many education methods of the moral values view.
