Language and culture are inseparable and interdependent for language is not only a part of culture but also the vehicle of culture as well as a means of communication. Vocabulary is the key element of a language. The impact of culture on language is mainly reflected in its vocabulary. Theoretically, the larger vocabulary one acquires, the most effectively he can perform the communication activities. However, the neglect of vocabulary's cultural connotation will directly affect the correct and proper choice and use of words, thus causing the communication barrier. But how to incorporate the teaching of target language culture with vocabulary properly remains an argument, which needs to be inquired into by all English teachers together with educators. This thesis is focused on the relationship between vocabulary and culture, and intended to reflect the manifestation of the thinking style, social value, social customs, religious beliefs and so on in vocabulary through precipitating the cultural factors in vocabularyThe writer analyses the problems existing in English culture and vocabulary teaching, then adopts a method of contrastive analysis. By means of investigation and analysis of first-hand data obtained from the self-designed test and questionnaires, the author intends to discuss the necessities and the feasibilities of the input of the culture in vocabulary teaching.On the basis of second language acquisition theories, the writer suggests some methods of integrating the teaching of its culture into English vocabulary teaching. By this way the writer hopes to arouse students' interest in English learning. What's more, it will cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness, and enhance their cross-cultural communicative competence.
