High Speed Ethernet (HSE) provides specifications for a cost-effective, high-speed, plant-wide network for process control using commercial off the shelf (COTS) Ethernet hardware and software. HSE running at 100 Mbit/s is intended for use in process automation, while also providing information integration with plant management and MIS systems. The Fieldbus Foundation' s HSE technology is described in part by IEEE 802.3u and ISO/IEC 8802-3. HSE also provides an enhancement to H1 applications by linking multiple devices and segments through "Linking Devices." HSE' s speed, bandwidth, transparent redundancy, time synchronization, and support of multiple protocols make it an excellent choice for use as the backbone in any application. In this article from the network perspective I introduce the components in HSE stack and their relationships, then I give a detailed analysis on the HSE network, including SNMP management mechanism and HSE network management agent. At the same time, I give some methods on NMA impliment. Then I designed the way by which NMA and network manager communicate. At the end I introduced how to build a HSE network. I also discussed the weak points of HSE and its future.
