With the deepening of various kinds of media information digitization andapplication of the communication technology of the multimedia ,etc., it make the gigaEthernet become the strategic choice of the high-speed,high bandwidth network. Therequirements of people to the bandwidth of the network, the performance of the networkand network management become higher and higher. Traditional two layers Ethernetswitch can't already meet network interconnection's demands ; And meanwhile, withprice and performance advantage,three layers Ethernet switch become essential networkinterconnection equipment. Therefore the design and research of three layers of switchbecoming a focus. It is an important problem to topological management in the networkmanagement field, too .Combining above-mentioned backgrounds, this text has introduced the developmentcourses and current situations of the access technology of broadband under this kind ofdemand at first, and has explained the third layer of switch operation principle on thisbasis . Then provide the software systems of an three layers of a concrete switch .SNMP is regarded as one kind of the network management protocol , it is its mainfunction to utilize it to develop network administrative system. And as an importantcomponent of administrative system, topological find is the core of configurationmanagement and foundation of trouble of management, so design of topological findalgorithm occupy very important status in the whole network management system. in thethird part of the thesis , I point out the shortcoming and deficiency that common makinguse of SNMP to realize the network topological finding algorithm at first, then propose akind of new improvement algorithm direct against the existing problem and. In end ofthis chapter, introduce another algorithm to utilize RIP to carry on the topological findand comparing of efficiency two kinds of topological algorithms under different networksizes.
