Recently, with the increasing penetration of mobile terminal,Mobile Internet has emerged as the latest mobile services and is one of the fastest growing segments in the global telecommunications market. In the field of BWA(Broadband Wireless Access), 802.11 and 802.16 attract more and more attentions in communication device/chip manufactures and mobile service provider. Since IEEE standards have the feature of tightly combining with IP technology, 801.11 and 802.16 are also based on IP in the nature. In addition, Always-on applications such as instant message, VoIP are developing rapidly. Therefore, mobility management of All-IP networks is becoming more and more important.Mobile IP protocol proposes mobility management solutions in IP layer. In this thesis, we focus on addressing some problems in mobility management based on Mobile IP.Firstly, this thesis introduces Mobile IPv4 and Mobile IPv6,and analysis the handover, routing, tunnel and security problems in details. The most important facts affecting the handover performance are investigated, such as mobile detection, binding update delay, bacause reducing the handover latency and increasing routing efficiency could be beneficial to real-time or non-real-time applications.Secondly, this thesis introduces the process of Fast Handover for Mobile IPv6 protocol(FMIPv6) and the implementment of FMIPv6 in 802.11 network. Handover delay of FMIPv6 is analysed in details. With the understanding of FMIPv6 and 802.11 MAC layer handover process,we introduce a fast handover method in 802.11network, and we implement the prototype system. Base on the system we test in experiment and analysis. At last ,this thesis proposes a fast inter-subnet handoff method in 802.16e network after studying the 802.16e standard.
