In recent years, with the rapid development of Internet and the mobile communications, there arise more and more transactions under mobile circumstances. Due to good mobility support and abundant addresses, Mobile IPv6 brings out a perspective of the integration between Mobile communication and Internet. But handover as a key factor that impacts the performances of the mobile networks greatly, must be well discussed and designed.IETF has provided several mobile management schemes in IPv6 networks, and researchers in different countries have provided lots of handover schemes. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. In this thesis, normal mobile IPv6 handover protocol, fast handover for mobile IPv6 and"LUP"handover scheme are analyzed. Then an improved fast handover scheme in IPv6 networks is given based on"LUP"handover scheme. The improved scheme not only inherits the advantages of"LUP"handover scheme: optimizing the mobile detection process, accelerating DAD process and using bidirectional tunnel to shorten the time of communication interruption, but also modifies the message format and the handover process used in"LUP"handover scheme to decrease handover delay.The result of simulation shows that the improved scheme, which is effective and feasible, decreases the handover delay and has a better performance than"LUP"handover scheme.
