The picture of colorful image sensors includes abundant information and contents, it has obvious function in the fields of military, aviation and astronomy, but huge data quantity has blocked the extensive application of spatial color camera, so researching efficient image compression system become inevitable.Based on the characteristic of Bayer image, this paper presents a new approach of interpolation after compression, which can avoid data redundancy and alleviate the burden of transmission. JPEG2000 is a new image compressing standard, it has the characteristic of high compression ratio and low distortion. In the paper, the image compression system based on JPEG2000 and the real-time realizations of it have been researched.Bayer CFA is most popular color filter array in colorful image sensor. A compression method for Bayer image is presented, which can get high PSNR (50dB) under near-lossless compression and create good condition for wavelet transform and transmission. According to the framework of wavelet transform, the FPGA architecture design of 2D-linfting wavelet transform based on JEPG2000 is proposed. The whole architecture was optimized in Time Division Multiplex (TDM) and the pipeline design, and it takes full advantage of the memory bits in FPGA, which leading to row and column processors work parallely. The results of simulation are identical with the MatLab simulation, so the validity of this architecture is proved. The hardware design of compression system was completed, which can realize wavelet transform. Experiments show that the system works stably and has ability of real-time processing. The whole design basically satisfied the request.
