IT industry has become one of the fastest developing sectors over the world, with development of computer data communication, network, multimedia communications and the demand for video and audio information of the people, the research and application of video and audio technoledge has become the research hotspot in the world. Owing to the high quality and the standard of data compression, it has become possible to transfer multimeida data on the digital channels. As applying gigabit ethernet technology of the campus network, the main task of campus network is that how to carry on two-way TV, multimedia courseware, VOD under high speed network and high quality of network services, so that serve the teaching and researching better.Digital campus is supported by a platform which is based on network infrastructure and basic network services, in order to realize digitalization, network, informationization from environment, resource to activities. The article is focus on how to establish the software-based multipoint videoconferencing system in the campus.Following H.323 multipoint videoconferencing standard which were established by ITU, furthermore effectively combine TCP/IP and UDP protocol, this article presents a software-based multipoint videoconferencing system in IP multicast environment, and makes the system has excellent expansibility and manageability; system terminal has high adaptability; suitalble for holding academic meetings and academic discussion in campus environment; is an economically viable videoconferencing system.The dessertation discusses about the development and related research of videoconferencing system, analyzes the developing prospect of videoconferencing system and the research significance of the project. The requirements of the videoconferencing system are given. The key techniques of videoconferencing system are researched. The multipoint videoconferencing system is designed and realized. Finally, the requirements of the function and performance are tested.
