| Since 2000, geoparks have been growing by leaps and bounds in China. At present, there have been 31 global geoparks and 240 national geoparks. A nationwide geopark system, which features various geological characteristics, has basically been established. Dali Mount Cangshan Geopark was successfully inscribed as a global geopark on September 23,2014, which has greatly enhanced its influence at home and abroad. Meanwhile, comprehensive protection and management as well as tourism development of the Dali Mount Cangshan Geopark is becoming imminent. Of the seven scenic areas of the Dali Mount Cangshan Geopark, Shimenguan area, which is located on the west slope of Mount Changshan, YangBi County, is of the greatest development potential. According to the "Classification of tourism resources, research and evaluation (GB/T18972-2003)", and based on in-situ investigation, it is evident that the tourist resources in Shimenguan scenic area are exceptionally rich, covering eight main category,20 subcategory, and 34 basic types. This paper outlines the general situation of the Dali Mount Cangshan Geopark, and provides details of the 10 kinds of geological tourism resources of the Shimenguan scenic area, i.e. important geological section, marble rock, karst cave, metamorphic mountain landscape, glacial landform of Dali glaciation, gorge, hot spring, rock-avalanche phenomena, ancient rock painting, etc.At present, main problems of Shimenguan scenic area include:1.Lack well-defined tourism functional zoning, and primary tourism function is not clear; 2.Lack of marketing, popularity is low; 3.Economic foundation of local community is weak, self-development ability is limited; 4.Lack of tour road system within the scenic area; 5.Tourism resource development is difficult; 6.Low popularity and competitive capacity; 7.Infrastructure and tourist reception capacity is insufficient; 8.Overshadowed by other scenic areas; 9.Vulnerability of the ecosystem and environment.With regarding to the problems facing the development of Shimenguan scenic area, some suggestions have been put forward in this paper from following twelve aspects:tour road system, infrastructure, tourist service facilities, travel safety, sanitation, telecommunication service, tourism shopping, operation and management, resources and environmental protection, market attraction, community participation, integrated management, and multi-cooperation mechanism. Finally, from the perspective of protecting geological tourism resources, the principle of functional protection zones of Shimenguan scenic area has been stressed in this paper, a map of functional protection zones has been provided, and the protection objectives have been clarified. |
