Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd(SIPG) aims to establish his fame of a world famous multi-national port management company during the process of developing Shanghai Port into an international first-class hub port. In order to achieve this aim, SIPG has made a long-term strategic scheme, namely "The Yangtze River Strategy, Coastal Strategy and Internationalization Strategy". So far, the network alongside the Yangtze River has come into being, therefore, we may say that 'The Yangtze River Strategy" has taken preliminary effects.Next, the focus of external development of SIPG will be coastal strategy. Being lack of deep-water container wharves, a large number of containers have to be transshipped via Pusan Port, Kaohsiung Port, and etc. According to rough statistics, in the year 2004, 70% of all the import and export containers were transshipped via other countries, Hong Kong and Taiwan. We hope that this structure would be broken when Yangshan Port is put into use.In this dissertation, The development and uptrend of the transshipment mode in Northeast Asia is analyzed. Two key points are grasped: scientific research on various transshipment modes, and the development trend of transshipment structure. In the first chapter, starting with the development process of international shipping center, combining the current situation and development scheme of North-east Asia ports, and taking into consideration the present transshipment structure of the major port. The present situation of transshipment structure in North-east Asia shipping industry is analyzed, the development rules of container transshipment market is then deduced, which forms the academic basis for the further researches in the subsequent chapters. In the second chapter, An AHP model is founded to study the comprehensivecompetition capability of the involving ports. It is concluded that Pushan port in an advantageous position before the opening of Yangshan port, however this status would change with Yangshan port being put into use. Comprehensive competition ability of shanghai port will be high promoted. Operating of Yangshan port will establish Shanghai port's position of the shipping center of Northeast Asia. The third chapter refers to technological economic analysis, "with—and— without test" is applied on the Yangshan Port project to analyze its economic benefits, then evaluation of all kinds of transshipment model of three ports in North China, Fuzhou port and Xiamen port, respectively. It is concluded that it is more economic to transship via shanghai after operating of Yangshan Port.In forth chapter, based on the above researches and combined present models of international flight service, Forecast is made on the uptrend of transshipment market in North-east Asia and also some suggestions are proposed about development of Shanghai Port in the further, aiming to attract transshipment cargoes, and to become international shipping center. One of the main character of this dissertation is practicability and prefigurativeness. It is believed that, after operating of Yangshan Port, a large number of cargoes from the coastal ports of our country, will be attracted to Shanghai Port. By our researches in this paper, we hope to provide parties concerned with constructive suggestions during their planning performance.
