Container Liner Shipping Companies The Ability To Manage Research Information Environment

IT (Information Technology) has been widely used in container shipping liners since 1990s. IT is of vital importance for the company's further survival and development.Combined with the research program "Quantificational studying and modeling of Information Industry's Influence on China's Logistics Industry" (Sponsored by National Natural Science Fund, Serial No: 70142021), this dissertation takes a study on capacity management in container shipping industry. Based on the Theory of Enterprise Competence Capability, according to shipping industry's intrinsic characteristics, this dissertation established the shipping company's capacity system and research framework toward capacity management.IT plays a key role in capacity management; it promotes the shipping company's capacity level. This dissertation takes a study on this issue, and elucidates that IT has positive effects on the company's competition advantage and service capacity.Based on the research mentioned above, this dissertation brings forward concrete measures and policies to improve a shipping company's capacity management level. Viewing from the inner part of the company, it is necessary to take advantage of IT to control excess capacity efficiently, and transform its organizational structure management style accordingly; while from the outer part, it is also essential for the shipping company to integrate and construct strategic alliances with others with the help of IT, and lead the whole supply chain to compete with others.Capacity Management is a theory which modeling for a company's capacities, evaluates and optimizes the capacities, and aimed to help the company to construct competition advantage and improve service capacity. It is able to solve a company's capacity configuration, allocation and optimization. This dissertation established the research frameworks of container shipping liner's capacity management, brings forward concrete measures and policies to improve its capacity management level. It provides a new concept for the shipping company'scapacity optimization.
