. At the end of 1990s, with the increasing surplus of China's agricultural products, the role that foreign trade of agricultural products is playing has changed significantly, thus, the researches on overseas market demands for agricultural products were put on agenda. The Republic of Korea is a big market which imports agricultural products of USD 12 billion annually in recent years. And with the liberalization of agricultural products trade, the agricultural products market of the Republic of Korea is necessarily becoming more and more open. Given Korean as a targeted market, it's very meaningful to research into the characteristics of its importing market of agricultural products, for making effective proposals to promote China's exporting agricultural products to Korea. It's also meaningful to study the essence of its agricultural problem and agricultural policies, for providing prospective on the potential and barriers of agricultural trade co-operation between China and Korea. The whole dissertation has been divided into seven sections, including four major topics:The first part is demand and supply analysis of Korea on major agricultural products. This part identifies Korea's demand structure of agri-products and importing amount, ready for the competitive analysis of Korean market. Meanwhile, it categorizes Korean importing agricultural products into three types according to how much they will hit the Korean domestic market if liberating the market for those products, ready for figuring out the potential areas as well as barriers of agricultural trade co-operation between the two countries.Judging by the market competition, the second part identifies the major countries who import agricultural products to the Republic of Korea, compares their competitive status in its import market and points out the main competitors of China. It also analyzes the factors affecting the trade volume fluctuation with Constant-Market-Shares (CMS) Analysis, explores the inner causes of fluctuation of the trade of major exporting countries with the Republic of Korea. As a result, United States and Australia are two most powerful contestants of China in the 'Korean market. The two factors that both strongly affect the trade volume fluctuation are the increasing rate of the amount of Korean importing market, and the competitiveness of those major exporting countries. The third part focuses on the trade relationship of China and Korea on agricultural products, and tells the basic characteristics of their trade relationship from three aspects, their exporting to the world market, mutual trade and competition in another single market (Japan). The empirical results have showed that the agri-products trade relation between two countries is competitive, and the competition is even much fiercer on the Japan market, which is quite important for them both. The complementarity of their mutual trade is decreasing, but deepening on intra-industry trade. The fourth part analyzes its agricultural policies and the problems that Korea has to face when its agricultural products market is obliged open. On the basis of the basic background of agricultural in the Republic of Korea, the analysis concluded how the statue of agriculture had changed and to what extent Korean government support its farmers' income. Added with other three aspects such as increasing of per capita income, the constraints of the limited demand for food, as well as the transfer of agricultural policiesobjects, those five issues induce to the essential problem of Korean agriculture as agriculture-adjustment problem, reflecting the deep course of high rate of protection of Korean government on agriculture. Besides, this part cited several studies' results to demonstrate Korean government's protecting level and the major support methods and objects of its domestic agricultural protective policies.the last part firstly makes a brief conclusion on all the former parts. Then, based on the first three ones, it provides policy suggestions on China's exporting agricultural products to the Republic of Korea from three aspects, the amount and food demand structure of Korea market, different attitude of Korean government on different importing agricultural products and China's advantageous exporting agri-products to Korea. And based the fourth part, it demonstrates the reason why the trade goals of China and Korea are conflicting is resulted from different characteristics of two countries' agricultural problem. And also discusses the prospect of the trade cooperation of agricultural products between two countries.
