City commercial banks, based on City credit cooperatives, were reorganized as the local joint-stock commercial banks during the process of establishing social market economy. Since 1995, there has been more than 100 City commercial banks in China, and in the past decade, these banks indeed played an important part in financial system's reformation, economy's development and financial risks'reduction. Recently, City commercial banks pushed the step of innovation, dealt with problem assets, improved assets'quality, enhanced profitable ability and perfected corporation administration and internal control system. In a word, they made great achievements.However, because of the historical reason, compared with State-owned banks, Joint-stock commercial banks, and foreign banks, City commercial banks have plenty of disadvantages. Thus, they should implement reorganization in order to enhance their own competitive strength, and to procure their positions in severe market competition. Nowadays, the supervisal authority have encouraged City commercial banks to implement reorganization, and suggested that each commercial bank should take its own characteristics into consideration during the process of reorganization. Each bank can choose the suitable models to reform, such as increasing capital, displacing problem assets, and attracting strategic investors. Therefore, to study City commercial banks'reorganization models has great practical value.This thesis is mainly divided into four parts, begun with City commercial banks'origin and problems, it analyzes their advantages and disadvantages in market competition, studies the necessity and feasibility of City commercial banks'reorganization, compares the common reorganization methods and then stratifies City commercial banks in our...
