| Rice is one of the staple foods of the human kind. About 3 billion people in the world are fed on rice. Its output of the world and output per hectare are the highest among various kinds of grain crops. With the continuous increase of the world population and demand diversity for rice, the demand for rice is becoming eager and eager and the rice trade is continuing.China is the world's largest rice producer and consumer. About 65% of Chinese people consider it as staple food. Therefore, the rice plays a big role in China's grain safety. Besides, the rice is one of China's traditional exports and China had been one of the largest three rice exporters of the world. With China's WTO entry and increasingly fierce competition of agricultural products, the competitive advantage of some agricultural products has been weakened. It's estimated that the rice has been the only agricultural product with certain international competitiveness among cereals in the international market.The paper aims to have a better understanding of the current international competitiveness of Chinese rice through analyzing its production, demand, trade and some indicates such as market share, normalized trade balance, revealed comparative advantage and so on. It's concluded that Chinese rice has certain competitive advantage in international market, but its competitive advantage is slight and on decline. Combining the theory of competitive advantage and the current situation of rice export, the paper proposed four aspects of countermeasures and suggestions to raise the international competitiveness of rice. |
