The industry-academic (IA for short) collaboration has for a long time attracted the interest of the academical area, since it is considered as the core component of the National Innovation System. However, as far as China is concerned, the IA collaboration study has focused mainly on the macro, systematic level, studies analyzing this problem through a micro, enterprise level are somehow scarece.This study tries to analyze the knowledge management activities, which is the central part of the IA collaboration, through a micro perspective. This perspective garentees the dominant status of the enterprises in such collaboration. After studying the institution of the knowledge management activities during the IA collaboration, this study builds up a model to analyze the functions the enterprise level core elements, the network embeddedness of the IA collaboration, and moreover the knowledge management during this collaboration have played on the enterprise innovation performance. What is worth noticing is that the innovation performance has been divided into the product innovation performance and the learning performance.The study has got three main conclusions after the empirical analysis utilizing 117 effective questionnaires. The conclusions are: 1) the R&D strategy, the absorbtive capacity, and the organizational structure, the three of which all together are called the enterprise level core elements have played an active role enhancing the network embeddedness of the IA collaboration, the knowledge management activities and the enterprise innovation performance; 2) The high network embeddedness of the IA collaboration will greatly promote the effectiveness of the knowledge management acitivities, and optimize its results; 3) The enterprise innovation performance could be divided into two parts: the product innovation performance and the learning performace, and moreover, is influenced by the enterprise level core elements, the network embeddedness and the knowledge management during the collaboration.
