Seismic attribute is a specific measuring derived from pre-stack or post-stack seismic data by mathematical manipulation which involves geometric, kinematics, dynamic and statistics characteristics of seismic wave. Seismic attribute contains abundant information, which is reflection to different geological information and is a quantity of seismic characteristic describing geological information such as stratigraphic configuration, lithology and physical appearance.The paper summarizes the developing history briefly and talks about geophysical basis, classification, mathematical calculation, extracting and optimization of seismic attributes systematically. And then it analyzes the geological factors affecting seismic attributes and the geological application of seismic attributes.Countering the problems such as complex tectonic, less wells and low level of exploration, the paper reasonably modifies the fine layer calibration of Permian Longtan group by using of well WX5-ST1 on the basis of works done by the wise man. Combining with the study about seismic attribute and geological conditions in South Yellow Sea above mentioned, the paper selects seven attributes to research such as RMS amplitude, dominant frequency, instantaneous frequency, arc length and so on. On the basis of fully realizing the seismic wave dynamic characteristics of Permian Longtan Group, the paper compares the whole region using the criterion of Permian Longtan group and at last gets a new distribution range and thickness chart of Permian formation.Finally the paper redistricts stratigraphical framework of the whole South Yellow Sea by using Permian formation as horizon maker and combining the geology data, logging data and seismic attribute of Lower Yangtze and Subei basin. As a result, it provides theoretical foundation for further seismic exploration.
