With the growth of the third generation mobile communication (3G) technology, the increasing market share of smart phones, tablet PCs and other equipment and the habits of phone users, location services has been an unprecedented rapid development. Now, most of the mobile internet business has related with location-based services, such as date, travel and shopping. Mobile location tracking is one of the location services which is concern and associated with our daily life. At the same time, some web sites which are Facebook, Sina and other social services, are gradually become the channel of getting and exchanging information. This is a hot trend of combining the mobile location tracking with social network, and it also meets the need of users.In the field of mobile internet, OHA alliance which was initiated by the Google walks in the forefront of the industry. Then an open Android smartphone platform was launched in November2007.The Android platform provides developers with the class library on the location. It can greatly facilitate in programming the software with the Google Map and some useful UI controls. Compared with developing mobile GIS software by the secondary component, it's more convenient to programming mobile software based on Android operation system. And it also integrates with multi-media, Bluetooth and other functions of Android platform, reduces the difficulty and time. Finally, it is proved that it's a very suitable solution for Mobile GIS self-development.This thesis focuses its research on the design and development of recording and sharing the user's routes of Mobile GIS.To meet the needs of user's habits is the core design idea of the software. The interfaces of the software consists a main activity, menu buttons for the users to select the functional modules, sub activities of each module and dialog boxes with setting custom options. And the track control module, the map management module, system setting module, route sharing module, route statistics module and the resources modules are the six modules of the software.To find out a new method using Android platform in Mobile GIS development is the main purpose of the thesis. The thesis introduces the key technology and development techniques in the whole system development. According to the user's habits, we develop the Mobile GIS software of recording and sharing user's route, complete the three components and some modules and design the route display platform to better sharing of user's routes.Through testing the application in Android device, and summary the situation of application users, we can find out that the application completes the basic functions and it also proves that it is a useful mobile phone software.
